1.1 Overall Importance

The grade for Pakistan Studies is formed by equal weight-age of each of both its components. Thus,

1. The component is of 75 marks – but its contribution to the weight-age is 50 percent.
2. Every mistake of 1 marks in the paper would be equivalent to 0.67 percent lost on the over all subject.
3. Scoring 90 plus in this component is crucial to the overall good result in Pakistan Studies subject.

1.2 Subject Division

   1. Section 1 has 5 Key Questions
      1. Religious Leaders

      3. War of Independence
      4. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan
      5. Languages
   2. Section 2 has 5 Key Questions
      1. 20th Century Pakistan Movement
      2. Khilafat Movement
      3. 1927-1939 Pakistan Movement
      4. 1940-Independence
      5. Role of Leaders Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal and Rehmat Ali.
   3. Section 3 has 6 Key Questions
      1. 1947-1948
      2. Issues Till Bangladesh Dispute
      3. Division of Bangladesh
      4. From Bhutto To Zia’s Assasination
      5. From Benazir To 1999
      6. Pakistan’s International Relations

Key point to remember: In the paper, one particular question would come from 1 SECTION. Discussed below in detail.

1.3 Paper Structure

5 Questions Total- 3 Questions Need To Be Solved

1. Question 1 – Compulsory – 25 marks
   1. Can be from any section
   2. Will focus on only 1 section in total
   3. Has 4 Sub parts
      1. Part (a) and (b) are based on sources
      2. Part (c) is similar to 7-marks question (discussed below)
      3. Part (d) is similar to 14-marks question (discussed below)
2. Question 2-5 – Do any 2 – 25 marks each
   1. Each question will be from 1 particular section
   2. Each question can test multiple key questions for the same section
   3. There will AT LEAST be one complete 25 marks question for each section.
   4. 3 Sub parts
      1. Part (a) is of 4 marks
         1. Quick fact check, needs 4 distinct points in paragraph form.
      2. Part (b) is 7 marks
         1. Need explanation of all relevant points (at least 4)
      3. Part (c) is argumentative question of 14 marks
         1. Requires a complete argumentative essay
         2. Considering all points in details
         3. Considering relevant alternate points.

The overall time for the paper: 1 hour 30 mins

Desired time for 4 marks question: 3 minutes

Desired time for 7 marks question: 6 minutes

Desired time for 14 marks question: 12 minutes

Desired length of answer for 4 marks question: 4-6 lines

Desired length of answer for 7 marks question: 1 – 1.5 pages

Desired length of answer for 14 marks question: 1.75-3 pages depending on the question.
