Part 1: Summary Passage
- Some key points you must remember before starting your attempt
- Read the question statement first: i.e. for which 2 aspects are you finding the points for. This way, you will not need to read the passage twice.
- When you are reading the first time
- Cut out anything that is between
- Two commas
- Two hyphens
- After i.e.
- After e.g.
- After “for example”
- All this is extra and is never a part of the content points
- Remember, content points are the CORE points that are basic thought of the passage.
- Not the extra and useless material in the passage.
- You are NOT required to content points in your own words.
- So, COPY PASTE them from the passage in the content points section
- Why?
- Because if you change the meaning converting them to your own words, you will lose marks for sure.
- You can write extra points
- There are more points than required in the passage/
- However
- DO NOT break single points into two part just to increase the number of points, otherwise, you won’t receive any marks.
- Do not write content points in PARAGRAPH form
- Write them in point form BUT proper sentences.
- Summary Part
- Try to understand that the examiner does not have unrealistic expectations from you. He knows you are a students So
- Do NOT CHANGE every word
- That is not possible. Students end up changing meanings when they change every word
- Instead, try to change the structure of the sentences.
- Use connectives
- However
- Moreover
- Furthermore
- On the other hand
- Also
- Remember, always put a comma after the connective if it comes at the start of the sentence.
- Do not try to overcrowd points
- You can leave 1 or 2 points out of the content points in the summary
- DO NOT add any details that were not a part of content points.
- Do NOT repeat stuff
- Waste of time
- And it is a blunder.
- Fact vs Opinion
- One common issue is understand what is a fact and opinion.
- Remember, do find it FROM the paragraph told. Do not take from another paragraph.
- Opinion
- Does NOT have normative statements
- e. statements that have the words ought to, might, may, could etc. in it.
- Instead, they are hard and direct positive statements.
- However, they are statements you can DISAGREE TO.
- For example, saying Panda can be cute
- is not an opinion
- Saying PANDA is cute
- is an opinion, because no normative words and I can disagree to it.
- Fact
- Positive statements that you can not disagree to or reject
- They also DO NOT have normative words.
- For example Washington DC is the capital of US is a factual statement.
- You or I can not disagree to it.
- Why?
- So, COPY PASTE them from the passage in the content points section
- Cut out anything that is between
