7 MARK QUESTIONS – COMPLETE EXAM GUIDE (CAIE Pakistan Studies – History & Culture)

  • One reason why Syed Ahmad Barelvi set up the Jihad movement was to revive Islamic practices among Muslims. This was important because many Muslims had moved away from true Islamic teachings and were influenced by un-Islamic customs, so he wanted to bring them back to the correct path. Another reason was to oppose Sikh rule in Punjab. This was because Muslims were facing religious restrictions and political oppression under Sikh rule, so Barelvi believed that armed struggle was necessary to protect Islam and Muslim rights.
